Restore scar therapy

Scars can become stiff and stuck, and restrict how you move. Restore scar therapy works on the scar and the tissue around it, so you can move freely and feel less restricted.

What it helps

Restore scar therapy practitioners can treat all surgery and trauma scars, including:

  • C-section scars
  • Abdominal surgery
  • Facial scars, including after cosmetic surgery
  • Sports injuries
  • Burns
  • Trauma
  • Oncology scarring

Treatment uses scar massage, soft tissue therapy, myofascial release, instrument-assisted massage and silicone cupping to release the adhesions that build up around and under a scar. It targets the scar and the surrounding areas, such as the abdomen, back, hips and diaphragm. Intraoral techniques can be used for facial trauma or after cosmetic facial surgery.

The Restore method

The method is holistic and based on clinical experience and research:

  • Avoid excess inflammation with gentle techniques. Inflammation can cause scar tissue to form, lead to keloid and hypertrophic scars, and after some surgeries raise the risk of lymphoedema and cording.
  • Get the skin and the tissue under it moving with manual soft tissue techniques, improving tissue health and easing common symptoms.
  • Treat sensitivity and nerve function with light, deep and vibrational massage, an approach also used in hand therapy and stroke rehabilitation.
  • Improve circulation and lymphatic drainage to support soft tissue health and reduce lymphoedema symptoms.
